This luxury coastal walking experience is the ideal way to explore the pristine beauty of the De Hoop Nature Reserve in South Africa. Ideally combined with a Garden Route self-drive holiday, this remote area offers secluded beaches and fynos-rich coastal pathways. Between July and November, Southern Right whales migrate here from Antarctica to calve and breed in the warmer waters close to shore, making this hike a spectacular whale watching opportunity.
Enjoy the sheer beauty of the De Hoop Nature Reserve and its offshore Marine Protected Area, during a 4 night / 5 day “slackpacking” experience. Follow the 14 km scenic trails and footpaths along the beaches, secret coves and rugged fynbos-covered coastline of De Hoop Reserve whilst being mesmerized by the endless views of the Indian Ocean and the surrounding hills, gorges, caves and ravines.
The De Hoop Camino starts with an optional 6km walk from the parking area, into Lekkerwater Beach Lodge where you will stay for two nights. Over this time you can enjoy a guided fynbos walk or inter tidal coastal walk, or enjoy a swim in the rock pools (weather and tide dependent).
From Lekkerwater Beach Lodge you will embark on a leisurely self-guided 4 to 6 hour coastal walk to Morukuru Beach Lodge, further west. The next two nights will be spent at Morukuru Beach Lodge, where various activities like mountain biking, snorkeling, sandboarding, and nature drives are included over and above some fabulous walks.
After a delicious breakfast, you will be transferred by road back to your car at the Lekkerwater carpark. Here we bid you farewell in preparation for your onward journey.
