Amber Dercksen
Administration Specialist
Amber is dedicated Namibian, who has a strong passion for understanding the human body and the sciences that drive its functioning. She earned her degree in Biomedical Science, with minors in Chemistry and Psychology, equipping her with a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy, physiology, immunology, and microbiology. Her studies emphasize how individual systems work together to maintain overall health, while subjects like chemistry provide insight into the complex biochemical processes underlying bodily functions.
During her academic journey, she gained valuable experience outside the classroom. In 2022, she worked as a waitress at Naankuse, where she developed her customer service skills and learned to adapt to the needs of diverse clients. In her final two years at university, she tutored Anatomy and Physiology, honing her ability to simplify complex scientific concepts for others. At the same time, she managed sports games, keeping track of scores and substitutions, which strengthened her ability to perform under pressure.
Outside of academics and work, Amber is a field and indoor hockey player, demonstrating her commitment, teamwork, and competitive spirit. She enjoys reading, watching movies and TV shows, and engaging in board games, often embracing friendly competition with friends and family.

What is your favourite Namibian destination and why?
Being a Namibian, I have actually not been to many places, but probably Swakopmund (typical I know) or Oanob Dam (I have good memories at both places).
What’s your hidden talent (or party trick)?
I am surprisingly pretty ok at video games.
Adventure holiday or staycation? And why?
This varies depending on where I am. If I am on holiday, I prefer being outside (preferably at the beach or somewhere where there is water 😊). I enjoy any type of sport, so if we are outside playing any sort of game, it is a win-win. I really enjoy water parks/theme parks. If I am at home, I enjoy the indoors where I can be with my family watching something, or if I am alone, I am probably reading. This is if I am not playing hockey lol.
How did you get into tourism?
I actually never thought I would be in tourism (I studied Biomedical Science so the complete opposite lol), but I was invited to join the team, and I actually really enjoy being here.
