Aus

Aus is a small settlement in the Karas Region of southern Namibia. It lies on a railway line and the B4 main road, 230km west of Keetmanshoop and about 125km east of Lüderitz. Most visitors stay just outside the town at the beautiful Klein Aus Vista, but we highly recommend stopping for tea and cake at the Bahnhof Hotel in town.

On the barren plains of Garub, 20km from Aus on the eastern border of the Namib Desert, you may be lucky enough to catch glimpses of the Namib Wild Horses. Their origins are uncertain but it is thought they were released into the wild by German troops in the early 20th century, especially during World War I, and they have adapted to the harsh, dry climate.

Activities in this are include hiking in the Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park and surrounding areas, there are marked hiking trails through the Aus Mountains to explore the flora and fauna of the Succulent Karoo desert. The trails cater for both beginners and experienced hikers and we have six different hiking trails to choose from.
