Stampriet is a small village resting on the banks of the Auob River. The small town is perhaps best known for its fresh water springs (Artesian water) and magnificent Palm trees. It is surrounded by limestone ridges, red dunes and a variety of large shade trees. Stampriet is the gateway to the Kalahari Desert. The Historical Guesthouse is situated un route to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and Mata-Mata Gate.
The C20 road that cuts through Stampriet and the Kalahari is one of the most scenic roads to drive while exploring the south. Stampriet’s history goes all the way back to 1898, when it was only a small trading post in the vastness of German South West Africa. Stampriet and its immediate vicinity is the site of many historical battles and events and evidence of these battles and events can still be found in the form of antique remains left behind by the people of that time. Some antiques can be seen in the Stampriet Historical Guesthouse.
All the guest rooms are built out of stone and wrapped in a timeless ambience, each beautifully decorated with historical artefacts. Every wall in the main area is hung with history and an interesting souvenir table is on display where you can purchase items of your choice. You will be taken aback by the very friendly host and warm hospitality of everyone at the guesthouse. Nothing you ask for is too much effort while you are being spoilt with mouth-watering dishes from breakfast, lunch to afternoon tea and cake.
